POMEGRANATE & CARDIOVASCULAR
In some pilot studies, Pomegranate has demonstrated itself as effective in reducing heart disease risk factors. This includes LDL oxidation, foam cell formation, and macrophage oxidative status.
Each of these are components of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. Those tannins such as punicalagins are targeted as possibly responsible for reducing oxidative stress with these consequential effects.
CANCER STUDIES AND POMEGRANATE
In 2007, there were six (6) clinical trials approved for cancer research involving pomegranate that include the countries of the United States, Norway, and Israel. Namely, whether or not the ingestion of pomegranate juice has any effect on prostate cancer, prostatic hyperplasis, or lymphoma.
There have been some companies marketing Pomegranate using claims that it is useful against cancer or that it may have cancer-fighting capabilities. If you have any suspicion that you have cancer of any kind, please see an oncologist. It is your life on the line and it would be reckless to accept any such claim by marketers of Pomegranate.
