There are some (including internationally known experts) who are calling Acai “the fountain of youth.” And as the evidence from clinical studies continues to mount, that may not be far from the truth. When you look at the list of potential health benefits, it is inescapable that Acai has huge potential to offer up a healthier life and even a younger-looking you.

Let’s take a look at the anti-aging issue and Acai.

There is no doubt that we all want to “live better… longer…..and look younger.” And there are reports from those who use Acai that they are getting these results. In addition, anti-aging has become a significant part of the research being done using Acai.

Some are calling Acai "the fountain of youth” and that comment may not be far off the mark.  Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a world-renowned expert on the subject of anti-aging and author of “The Perricone Promise, Look Younger, Live Longer in Three Easy Steps”, deemed Acai worthy of the title “the top superfruit in the world.” His statement was made in an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2007.

Dr. Perricone had this to say about Acai Berry: “…studies have shown that this little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world!”

Acai is chock full of Omega 3, 6 and 9 fatty acids (EFAs), dietary fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates, and amino acids.

When measuring the anti-aging qualities of Acai you have to look at the enormous antioxidant power of this superfruit. After all, free radicals that ravage our bodies cause inflammation and the consequences of that is “aging.” Natives of the Amazon (where the Acai Berry is harvested) have deemed it the “tree of life.” That tells you something about how highly they value the Acai Berry.

Premature aging is a result of deterioration of bodily organs and loss of elasticity in skin (sagging) and these are advanced by free radicals. There are two factors at work:

    1. Longevity determinant genes (LDG)
    2. Destruction of DNA molecules.

Acai provides protein, which is a primary component of body tissues, including muscles and organs. It is rich in regenerative nutrients and powerful antioxidants to slow the aging process. In fact, users report that their skin looks healthier and more wrinkle free.

In animal studies, lower-calorie diets extend lifespan. It is thought to involve some reduction in oxidative stress. Therefore, diets that are rich in fruits and vegetables (higher antioxidant content) promote better health and a reduction in the process of aging. For that reason, it is hypothesized that the use of superfruits, such as Acai, have an even greater impact on the aging process.
